Humans in the 21st century have a wide variety of expectations for how they spend their money. One of these is shopping and the pleasure of thinking about, seeing, and choosing from many options that something that will fulfill a need. The truth is, we are living in a new phase: that of e-commerce, which allows us to buy and sell online.  

The rise of online shopping was ushered in by technology pioneered by two companies: eBay and Amazon. It was in the 1990s that these companies emerged and revolutionized the rest of the industry.  

Until that moment, it was the big executives sitting in their offices who dominated the market, but these two companies used the power of the Internet and gave the masses an opportunity to make their businesses known.  

What is an online store and why do they exist? 

By entering a product name into the Google search engine, you will find thousands of online stores that have it, allowing you to check prices and even different models.  

The main feature of websites designed to sell products online is that they allow you to create a catalog, describe your products, and sell them to anyone on Earth. The best part is that anyone can have an online store through a very simple process.

–  Investment:  

An online store streamlines your investment costs. You don't need a million dollars to start a business, but rather a small amount of money to design the website, for example; a hosting domain costs as little as $20 a year. An online store eliminates the expenses of buying or renting a physical location, purchasing furniture or shelving, office supplies, and other related costs.  

– Ease of handling 

In physical businesses, it is necessary to understand how the business works before opening it, and even to comply with specific steps, as is the case with large stores or franchises. 

Unlike an online store, which once designed, you can start using with only basic knowledge.  

Automated  processes

Customers can visit the site, pay, and receive their product without you having to attend to them. This not only helps keep business costs low, because you don't have to pay staff, but it also allows you to be an entrepreneur with enough free time to invest in other businesses or personal projects.  

– No limit on customers 

Amazon broke a record in Christmas 2016 when it sold almost 1,000 products in 24 hours, that's up to 10 items per second. This sales volume was only possible because it's an online store; if it had been a physical store, the story would have been very different. Its capacity wouldn't have allowed it, and it's humanly impossible to meet demand at that speed.  

In addition, there are other features you can take advantage of in your online store business, including agreeing on promotions or offers for specific periods; these initiatives are automatic and you don't need to manage them.  

It goes without saying that it will be very easy to organize your stock virtually and that, in turn, there will be the option to work from home and save yourself the time and money of transportation and other responsibilities that we must assume when we have a physical business.  

More and more people are starting online stores to earn extra income or even as their main source of income. If you already have your business idea, then all that's left is to launch your own online presence.
